Two Valley Center friends started a business geared toward baseball fans and kids who play the sport.

John Adams and Brent Welch launched Inside the Batter's Box.

The two men brainstormed the idea one night over dinner.

“Inside the Batter's Box got started at a dinner with the Welches," Adams said. “Brent and I wanted to do something we were passionate about, which is sports."

More specifically, they wanted to start a business around baseball.

“We both knew the subscription boxes were popular, and we thought we could do a baseball subscription box that would be fun and useful, not just full of trinkets and useless items," Adams said.

The business was born in October.

“We more than doubled our projected subscriptions for October and have great momentum for November and December," Adams said.

Customers can order subscriptions through the company's website, www.insidethebattersbox.com. For a monthly fee, a customer receives a box containing a baseball-themed T-shirt, snacks, baseball cards, training tools, baseball stickers, hats and other items.

Adams said the company secured partnerships with SKLZ, Max Bats, Marucci, Rawlings, Vulcan, Stinger Bats, Pro Hitter, iSplack, Glare Blockers, Damage Hitter and 5 Tool Jewlery to start.

On its website, the company promises that each box will include more than $50 worth of merchandise each month.

In addition to the subscription boxes, the company sells other packages.

“We are launching a value baseball box for the holidays and have baseball-themed apparel for baseball fans, players and moms," Adams said.

The company is based in offices at 209 W. Main, where the Welch and his wife, Christie, operate Coral Daisy Boutique, a women's apparel shop.
