Time for those who won to work Last Updated: November 16, 2017 And the prize for winning? Work. Those who won election in local races last week will soon become elected leaders and not merely candidates. For many, this will be their first experience in local government. Others will begin another term. Now it's time to lead. Leadership doesn't always mean being in front. Most of the time, it's a collaborative effort with other elected officials. It's standing behind an initiative. It's about building consensus and finding common ground. The job requires less ego and more elbow. It's more nudge than push, more tug than pull. A gentle touch is often more powerful than a forceful blow. For the sake of moving our communities forward, ideology often must take a back seat and let common sense drive. It's more PTA meeting and less boardroom bravado. It will be interesting to see how some of our newly elected leaders respond to their new responsibility. Their talk will now have to be joined by their walk. — The Ark Valley News |
