Major highway project to affect Park City in ’19
By Taylor Messick
Last Updated: November 16, 2017

On Nov. 14, Park City City Administrator Jack Whitson announced that the reconstruction of I-235 is set to begin in 2019 and will affect Park City.

“I went to a meeting downtown about I-235 North," said Whitson. “It's probably going to start in 2019. It's going to impact us somewhat because they'll be working on the ramps at Broadway and 235. They'll be taking out some bridges on 235."

Whitson said the current plan is “complicated" and contains five phases. He also mentioned that traffic will have to be diverted down 53rd Street and Broadway to avoid the construction.

The revelation of the project comes at a time when the intersection of I-135 and I-235 is as dangerous and busy as ever. The goal of this project is to eliminate that intersection. Upon completion, I-235 will continue onto K-96. It will completely bypass I-135.

“That's been kind of a loggerhead to the west in the morning," said Whitson. “This will keep a lot of traffic off I-135 and keep that traffic flowing south into K-96. And it will have the reverse effect in the evenings."
