Local Boy Scout Troop 494 participated in three significant campouts this summer.

The first campout was to Quivira Scout Ranch in Sedan in June. This is an annual summer campout and 16 Scouts attended. They were Matthew Allbritten, Ben Asmussen, Reid Bowen, John Cain, Chasen Crippen, Dylan Dunn, Ryder Helfrich, Ethan Leiker, Braden Maltz, Mack Miller, Ben Sissler, Barrett Smith, Max Wallman, Aaron Wiebe and Alden Weibe. Eight adults and two Scouts — Scott Johnson and Jon Smith — worked at the camp for the summer.

The second campout was to Spanish Peaks Scout Ranch in Walsenburg Colo., in June. This campout had six Scouts attend. They were Matthew Allbritten, Derek Dunn, Braden Maltz, Issac Reeves, Garett Richey and Jon Smith. Six adults attended and three Scouts — Victor LeRock, Ashlyn Richey and Garett Richey — worked the camp for the summer.

The third campout was to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimmaron, N.M., in July. This campout is much longer and requires greater experience and endurance. This year's group camped for 12 days and covered nearly 100 miles. The campout had 12 Scouts attend — Alex Asmussen, Joe Cain, Dylan Dunn, David Kintzel, Victor LeRock (Eagle Scout), Andy Lieber, Kenny Lieber, Cameron Maltz, Bodie Saad (Eagle Scout), Jon Smith, George Wallman and Aaron Wiebe. Seven adults attended and Scout Keith Johnson worked the camp for the summer.

Scheduled campouts for 2017-18 are Mt. Rushmore, Alabaster Caverns, Milford Lake, winter skiing, St Louis, West Virginia and numerous local campsites.
