CHESTER NICKELSON Last Updated: August 31, 2017 Chester “Chet" M. Nickelson, 91, of Valley Center, died Aug. 22, 2017. He was retired from Boeing as a superintendent of quality assurance. He was born June 11, 1926, in Freedom, Okla., to Frank and Lillian Nickelson. He graduated from Freedom High School on May 20, 1943. He graduated from Northwestern State College in Alva, Okla., on July 24, 1951. He went to work for the Boeing Military Airplane Company on Oct. 28, 1952. He married Helen (Stewart) Cullum in 1956. He was active in the church, the community and the 4-H Club. He built custom cabinets and furniture and helped remodel homes in the area. After retiring, he taught metallurgy at Boeing and was a member of the Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Velma Kenney. Survivors include his wife; children Ron (Lu Ann) Nickelson, Dawn Nickelson, Curtis Nickelson, Tana Tennyson and Leah (Mark) Hammar; brothers Willis (Joanne) Nickelson and Merle (Rowena) Nickelson; grandsons, Nicholas and Alexander Tennyson, and Taylor and Jorah Nickelson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 5 at the Valley Center Christian Church, 1801 E. Fifth. Donations to Good Shepherd Hospice, 7829 E. Rockhill, Suite 403, Wichita KS 67206.
