Street projects moving forward By Taylor Messick Last Updated: August 17, 2017 On Aug. 10, the Kechi City Council approved bids for two upcoming road projects. The second phase of the Tigua Street project is expected to begin in September. It is expected to take 90 days to complete. The council unanimously selected the bid of Kansas Paving in the amount of $733,445.90. One issue the city is hoping will be resolved by early September is the incomplete status of phase one of Tigua Street. Flint Hills Materials Inc. is behind schedule on that phase of the work. "They are currently behind on the project and they're being assessed liquidated damages," said City Administrator Bob Conger. "We are meeting with the principals of the business to get a revised work schedule. They're supposed to give us an updated schedule for completion so we will have a better idea after meeting with them." Also approved on Aug. 10 was a bid for the repaving of Baird Street. The council again selected Kansas Paving for the job at a cost of $95,542. The project is expected to start in September and should be completed in 30 days. "We had allocated $300,000 for that project," said Conger. "It came in at $95,000 so we're going to use that extra money for re-surfacing Prairie Creek next year. We'll pay cash for it instead of using bonds." |
