From the library By Janice Sharp, director Last Updated: July 13, 2017 More participants needed for TRIBE Our 2017 Summer Reading Program Build a Better Future will soon be complete. We have one more week of performers July 19, then our pool party July 26. The performers for the final week will be H3TV, which is an active hip-hop group from Kansas City. Please remember reading logs are due by 2 p.m. July 22 in order for children to be eligible for prizes. We do not make exceptions with the deadline. We can all watch for changes in Lions Park with the beginning of the new community facility. We estimated that 200 people attended the groundbreaking ceremonies July 4. We have certainly appreciated the support from the community in the fundraising efforts with the last $50,000 to be raised. Once again, we have an anonymous donor willing to match $50,000 to get us across the finish line. Any donations above the required total for the building will be used for interior furnishings. We received a notice last week that someone tried to illegally download an HBO television series through our Wi-Fi system. There are two scenarios that could result from this. The first is that we would lose our Cox internet service. The second is that we would change from the free Wi-Fi offered and require a password for access. We hope that one person does not ruin the system for everyone. There are two programs scheduled this week. At 6:30 p.m. July 13, we will have a Reader's Mystery Dinner Theater. We have a TRIBE program scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 14. That program may be cancelled due to a lack of reservations. Last fall, we began requiring a minimum of five attendees for all programs, thereby requiring RSVPs at least five days prior to the event. The library must be accountable for the use of taxpayer funds. We cannot provide staff and treats when reservations for program attendance is less than five people. The final TRIBE event will be July 28 with a hotdog cookout. RSVPs due by 6 p.m. July 24. The Friends of the Library will have its next meeting at 6 p.m. July 25 at the library. We will discuss continuing the fundraising efforts. We are now taking reservations for the adult Christmas in July workshop July 29. The presenter, Lorie Schaller, will show us how to make an angel by folding pages of a book. We previously made a valentine folded book and a "love" book prior to Valentine's Day. Call the library if you would like to attend. The last summer story time will be July 25, and the last summer movie will be shown July 27. The weekly story times will resume Sept. 12, 13 and 14.
