The View from Sunflower Gardens By Marilyn Bentley Last Updated: June 29, 2017 Some here have traveled a lot Do you know the words of "Taps"? "Day is done, gone the sun, from the lakes, from the hills, from the sky; all is well, safely rest, God is nigh. "Fading light, dims the sight, and a star gems the sky, gleaming bright. From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night. "Thanks and praise, for our days, ‘neath the sun, ‘neath the stars, ‘neath the sky; as we go, this we know, God is nigh." Verse of the week: "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23. "Henry Ford was a wise old man. He put four wheels on an old tin can, a spark plug and a radiator cap and the darn thing ran. Now what do you think of that!" — Charles Logue. "Art is that in which the hand, the head and heart go together!" — John Ruskin. Among the dear hearts and gentle people here are those who show up for our Monday coffee chats, Tuesday Bible studies, game nights, music concerts and sing-alongs. We like our library with good books and our puzzle rooms with fun landscape jigsaw puzzles. We like our potluck dinners and parties. Some do walks around our north building or use the new wide sidewalk. Remember to pray for all our troops and their families. Though raised in Iowa years ago, I had fun travels in the USA with family with different vacations. So I have "Seen the USA" by car, plane and train. The first time in Kansas was when I brought a daughter to college in Wichita. I've been fortunate to see both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and the Gulf of Mexico and to wade in the Pacific Ocean in California. It was fund to walk around Washington, D.C., to see the Lincoln Memorial, the White House and the Smithsonian Museum, etc. We saw the Bowery in New York City and the waterfront and visited the Statue of Liberty. I've been to Florida, California, Oregon, up to Montreal, Canada, and camped at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. With our boys, we camped at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and also went to Branson. I've enjoyed seeing museums in Chicago. I've spent time in upper New York state, saw Lake Placid and Vermont. I've been to Disneyland twice in California with our high school kids. I've had a fun trip to Nashville. Once we were up to Canada with a camper. We visited Estes Park in Colorado. Saw a Denver museum. I've been to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, which took my breath away. Twice we took Amtrak to Oregon to see family in Portland. Seeing several places in Minnesota was fun. We attended a wedding at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. We enjoyed a boat trip from Dubuque, Iowa, on the Mississippi River. We attended the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa. So, I've seen the USA in prairies, mountains, oceans and cities.
