Hornet Comeback falls short at Central
By Mark Marshall

Bus stop sign means cars must stop

While school buses remain incredibly safe, we all know that students who ride buses are most vulnerable when they are outside the bus in the "danger zone."  This is the time when the school bus has the stop arm out and the lights are on.

Recently the USD 262 Transportation Department participated in a six-week, statewide survey to track stop arm violators. The results were shocking.

We tracked six route buses over the 30-day period, and had 153 stop arm violations.

For the safety of our students please relay this information to anyone that you know that drives in our community. The bus stop sign means stop.

On a more positive note, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the seven transportation employees who won Employee of the Month.

October: Shop attendant Connie Burditt-Nelson

November: Bus driver Gail Johnson

December: Mechanic James Saad

January: Bus driver Charmaine Owens

February: Bus driver Janie Hill

March: Bus driver Gary Anderson

April: Bus aide Cindy Large

Mark Marshall is director of transportation for USD 262.
