The View from Sunflower Gardens By Marilyn Bentley Last Updated: April 20, 2017 Favorite small towns in Kansas We like our Monday and Thursday coffee chats, Bible study on Tuesday, game nights, and music concerts on Thursday and Friday. Many like out activities. Today is a gift from God. That's why it's called the present. Thanks for elderly saints among us. "Use it up, wear it out. Make it do or do without." — old maxim "We love our country. The U.S.A. The acquisition has not always been honorable. Our land's resources have been used sometimes unwisely. We should share the resources, treasures with all God's children. May God help us to keep our country a secure and happy sanctuary for all who dwell therein.' — The Rev. Les Brandt "Our world is beautiful and bountiful. We are caretakers of this planet. We are to use land, rivers, lakes and forests for good of all. "There is ongoing work to curb pollution of rivers and cropland, and the air. Organic foods are purchased because no pesticides were used in the growing process. We need to clean up our soil." — Leslie Brandt We are glad for Midwest farmers who brought loads of hay to farms and ranches where acres were burned in recent bad grass fires. Recent rains helped renew the land, so black, so burned. We are glad for Midwest farmers who care and share for all who till the land. There are many favorite small towns in Kansas. Special lodging can be found at bed and breakfast homes across our state. Atchison, home of Amelia Earhart, has some trolley rides, special dinners, flea markets, Octoberfest and a catfish tournament. It is found in far northeast Kansas. Topeka has our Capitol and the Kansas Expocentre, many museums, malls and music concert experiences. Winfield has the Wheat State Wine Company. It is on the highway to Oklahoma in south-central Kansas. We have a Kansas "land and sky" scenic byway in three northwest counties: Wallace, Sherman and Cheyenne. Sharon Springs, Goodland, Wheeler and St. Francis share the byway with massive wheat farms, hunting ranches and wildlife. Highways 27 and 40 are in this area. There are wild turkeys in this area. St. Francis has many deer near the Republican River drive. In the fall each year, Bonner Springs has a fun Renaissance Festival. It has the Agriculture Hall of Fame. Manhattan, in the Flint Hills, has Aggieville, which offers food and music with a Mexican flavor. Remember to keep in your prayers all our troops and their families. Verse of the week: "Whatsoever ye shall ask in payer, believing, ye shall receive." (Matthew 21:22) "Be kind, anyway." — Mother Teresa |
