Two men arrested in burglary, shooting
By Chris Strunk
Last Updated: April 13, 2017

Two men were arrested late last week in connection with the April 1 home invasion and shooting that wounded a rural Valley Center couple.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said detectives were following leads in the case when they found a suspect at an apartment complex in Winfield April 6.

After a standoff with authorities, including Winfield police and the Cowley County Sheriff's Office, the suspect was taken into custody about midnight.

The suspect, Shawn M. Darnell, 37, of Winfield, was treated at a local hospital for an injury that occurred before the standoff and was booked into jail April 7 on charges of three counts of aggravated battery, three counts of aggravated robbery and three counts of aggravated kidnapping.

He remained in jail as of April 10 on a $500,000 bond.

A second suspect was arrested April 7 in Wichita.

Vincent L. Ransom, 35, of Wichita, was booked into jail on charges of three counts of aggravated battery, three counts of aggravated robbery, three counts of aggravated kidnapping and criminal possession of a firearm.

He was in jail as of April 10 on a $500,000 bond.

There are no suspects outstanding in this case, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities said the suspects appeared to have targeted the house in the 9500 block of North Oliver, but did not know the victims. The sheriff's office said they were after cash.
