More trucks and food for second rally
By The News staff
Last Updated: March 23, 2017

Food trucks are returning to Valley Center.

This time, there will be more of them and they'll be ready for a large crowd.

Main Street Valley Center will host Food Trucks on Main Street from 5 to 9 p.m. April 28 in the 200 block of West Main.

Nine food trucks have committed to being a part of the event. That's two more than last fall when most of the trucks reported selling out of food, some in less than two hours.

"We learned our lesson," said Chris Strunk, president of Main Street Valley Center. "We weren't sure how many people to expect last year, since this was the first time Valley Center has ever had a food truck rally. We now know that Valley Center folks are hungry for these types of events, and we're sure they'll give this another try."

Trucks returning from last year include The Big Apple New York Style Street Food, Lynn's Curbside Cookout, Gaga's Grub, Funky Monkey Munchies, Big Chill Ice Cream and Italian Ice, and Breezy's Snow Shack.

New trucks include The Food Guy, Flying Stove Gourmet Street Cuisine and Hot-2-Trot Gourmet Hot Dogs.

"The committee wanted a variety of food vendors," Strunk said. "The owners of these trucks are excited to be part of this event."

Organizers were pleased to have two locally-owned trucks (The Food Guy, owned by Ben Anderson; and Breezy's Snow Shack, owned by Angie John) and a third with strong Valley Center ties (Gaga's Grub, owned by Dustin Presley).

The event last August drew about 1,500 people. Organizers expect about the same this year.

Like last fall, the April 28 event will include inflatables, games, music and facepainting. The games and activities are free.

Meal prices are determined by each truck.

"It's a family-focused event," Strunk said. "We can't wait for families to return to Main Street again for a fun night. We can think of no better place to celebrate family and friends than in downtown Valley Center."
