Kechi finalizes contract for Tigua Road engineering By Taylor Messick Last Updated: March 23, 2017 On March 9, the Kechi City Council approved a contract with PEC for the Tigua Road construction engineering. PEC is 99 percent finished with the first phase of the project and the finalizing of this contract allows them to send the design so that contractors can bid on the construction. KDOT allocated $2 million for the project; PEC's portion of the work leaves them being owed $162,000. Bids for the construction aspect of the job are expected to come in around $1.8 million, which would still leave enough money to cover payment to PEC for the engineering portion. If for some reason construction bids come in higher than expected, the contract will hold the city responsible for covering any cost that comes in excess of KDOT's $2 million. "This has been the reality of the project from day one," said city administrator Bob Conger. "I fully believe everyone will hold their end of the deal and pay what they're supposed to pay. I can't say absolutely that we won't be on the hook for any of KDOT's portion at this time, but I feel very confident that it will not happen." In other business, the council: •Donated a gift of $500 to KPTS with a 4-1 vote following a presentation from KPTS president, Victor Hogstrom. •Heard a WAMPO update from Jason O'Brian. •Added a SHRED IT option in conjunction with clean-up day at a cost of $807 by a unanimous vote. All members of the council were present and there was no executive session taken. |
