The View from Sunflower Gardens
By Marilyn Bentley
Last Updated: December 01, 2016

We like the song ‘Home on the Range'

It's December!

We are thankful for the legends of the past and those heroic folks who made us all aware of our heritage here.

We like the "Home on the Range" song and the "Wizard of Oz" and Amelia Earhart, and Kansas author William Inge.

We still like to see flying the Boeing planes and cattle, sheep and horse in our fields.

All are part of Kansas.

We at Sunflower still read of past and present war heroes.

We like to live here. There is a good climate, a Kansas sense of humor and lingo, and many fun family stories.

We like towns like Abilene, Topeka, Chanute, Garden City, Valley Center and Hutchinson.

Folks here like our coffee chats, game nights, sing-alongs, Bible studies, clever jigsaw puzzles, parties and our mailman.

Remember to pray for all our troop and their families.

Welcome, welcome to all new residents.

Verse of the week: "Therefore, put away lying. Speak every man truth with his neighbor for we are members one of another." (Ephesians 4:25)

We enjoy our piano concerts by Nancy Scriven. Thank you. Also we like our hymn sings with Kay. Thank you.

We like Brewster Higley's creation of the song "Home on the Range": "…Where the deer and the antelope play, Where seldom is heard, a discouraging word…"

Fun things we do in Kansas: Add to the Ball of Twine, tour the Cosmosphere, visit a zoo, see the Capitol dome, go to Boot Hill in Dodge City, tour Fort Scott or Fort Riley, learn about famous clown Emmet Kelley of the Barnum and Bailey Circus, visit Cowtown and Exploration Place, hear the symphony in Century II, see the new Greensburg, visit the Medicine Lodge museum, take in a rodeo or a ball game, tour a mall in Kansas City or Wichita, dine at the Brookville Hotel, see the Eisenhower Museum in Abilene. So many treasures to see and do in Kansas. Be thankful for these.

"Be kind, anyway." — Mother Teresa
