Utilities near bridget to be moved By Taylor Messick Last Updated: November 17, 2016 Sedgwick County has determined that the utilities near the 61st Street bridge in Kechi will need to be moved to complete the project, the Kechi City Council learned Nov. 10. This is considered an "emergency" job due to the nature of the sudden determination. Kechi is also considered a third class city so these factors allow the city to move forward with the job quickly without taking competitive bids. Kechi will handle the gas relocation at a cost of $17,000. The water and sewer lines will be contracted for a total cost of $62,500. The city has enough money in its reserve funds to cover the expenses. The city is currently working on the designs because the county wants to start the bridge replacement in mid-December. Depending on the weather, they are estimating eight weeks for the completion of the project. In other business Nov. 10, the council: •Approved the consent agenda by a unanimous vote. •Accepted a franchise agreement with AT&T by a unanimous vote. •Approved $1,500 for Christmas gifts for employees and volunteers by a unanimous vote. Council member Betty Washington was absent. There was no executive session taken. |
