Teen arrested after series of morning wrecks
By Chris Strunk
Last Updated: October 20, 2016

A 15-year-old Valley Center High School student was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a series of wrecks on her way to the school around 9 a.m. Oct. 15.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said the girl was driving a white Nissan north in the 9300 block of North Seneca when the car left the road and ran into the tree line. The girl kept driving. She went around the Road Closed signs on 93rd Street, went off the road again and then made it to the high school parking lot.

The car ran over at least one median as the girl drove to the east side of the school.

There were several cars in the parking lot, and dozens of volunteers were at the school painting parking stripes. According to a Valley Center police report, bystanders were able to stop the girl's vehicle and call 911.

No one was hurt.

The call was initially dispatched as an injury accident, said Sedgwick County sheriff's Lt. Lin Dehning. EMS checked the girl at the scene, but she was not injured.

"The investigation on scene determined she was possibly under the influence while driving," Denning said.

The girl was taken to the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center.

The News is not releasing the name of the driver.
