New Mexican fast-food restaurant receiving warm welcome in Park City

Goyo's is a new restaurant at the corner 53rd and Broadway and is providing a unique need for workers and residents in the area.

The restaurant has been open for about a month and is owned and operated by Mara Mendez and her husband Victor Cisneros. Mendez' parents are the owners of the popular Wichita Mexican restaurant Molino's. Cisneros runs the kitchen while Mendez takes care of front-of-house operations. The name "Goyo" is Cisneros' father's nickname and the restaurant is dedicated to him.

"My husband has always worked in restaurants," said Mendez. "I've personally worked in a restaurant with my parents since I was 13. We both have so many years of experience in that environment and that's what we love doing."

The couple has lived in Park City for three years with their two children, who are 4 and 7 years old. They live nearby and love it. They already have support from within the community and hope to keep expanding their business by bringing outsiders to Park City to try their food. Mendez said they have already had several customers who were passing through and stopped off the highway to come eat.

"My husband always had his eye on this community," she said. "He wanted to live somewhere that wasn't too crowded and he has always loved this part of the city. We have a really good neighborhood, and they've all been so supportive and they've come in to eat so many times already."

The favorite items so far seem to be burritos and fish tacos. Mendez says business has been good.

"We've been marketing in the neighborhood and Wichita area," she said. "One thing we've noticed is other fast-food places' food and quality is low, even though the prices are cheap. We're taking care of that here by offering quality food with fair prices. We're in kind of an industrial area, so lunches have been very busy because it's really a great and convenient place for workers to come get a good lunch."

Goyo's is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. It offers a variety of breakfast burritos for early morning eating in addition to lunch and dinner.
