Assistant principal named best of the year By Chris Strunk Last Updated: March 31, 2016 Jamie Wetig, assistant principal at Valley Center Middle School, has been named the middle school assistant principal of the year by the Kansas Association of Middle School Administrators. Wetig has been with the Valley Center school district since 2011, when he was hired as principal of the newly formed intermediate school for fifth and sixth grades. He has been assistant principal at the middle school for the past three years. "Personally, it is a nice honor to be recognized for the good things we all do, because any award or honor is more about the people you work with, than about the recipient," Wetig said. The award will be presented May 6 at the association's conference at Washburn Rural Middle School. Principal Kent Hipp nominated Wetig for the award. Wetig said Hipp is "truly a leader who cares about the people he works with." This will be Wetig's final year in Valley Center. Wetig announced that he will be resigning at the end of the school year as he pursues a district-level administrative position in another district. Meanwhile, Valley Center Middle School has been named a "high-performing" school by the Kansas Association of Middle School Administrators. It is now one of 23 schools in the running for middle school of the year, which will be announced in May. |
