Valley Center wrestlers and coaches honored By The News staff Last Updated: March 31, 2016 The Valley Center High School wrestling team had its end-of-year banquet March 23. Several award winners were announced. Senior Ryan Delforge was named most valuable wrestler. Sophomore Chase Ramirez was most valuable JV wrestler. Ramirez also had most JV wins with 33, which is a school record. Practice wrestler of the year was senior Seth Dillman. Coaches spirit award went to sophomores Mike Turkali and Payton Stoffel. Team motivator was senior Tom Adams. Sara Dillman was team mom. Junior Sam Weldon recorded the most varsity wins with 48, which is second all-time. The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association awarded the 5A assistant coaches of the year award to Benny Armstrong, Tate Lowe, Jordan Doll and Jeremy LeDuc. This is the second time the Valley Center assistants have won this award. Corey Jones and Ben Jimenez won it in 2007. Jones and Jon Graham won the middle school coaches of the year award last year from the same organization. In addition, coach Brian Shelton noted that Cade Blair, assistant coach at Andover High School, was the National Wrestling Coaches Association assistant coach of the year. Blair is a 2010 VCHS graduate, three-time state champion and former assistant coach at Valley Center. "Great kid and wish he was still here," Shelton said. |
