It’s time to give to others Last Updated: December 03, 2015 'Tis the season for giving. In the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, there are many ways to show compassion toward people in need right here in our own communities. A quick look around will show you some opportunities. Valley Center Cares for Kids, which helps local families throughout the year, is in the middle of its Christmas Kids campaign. Several families have already been "adopted" and donations are being accepted. There is time to "adopt" a family if you hurry. Purchases must be returned by Dec. 11. The program hopes to serve up to 100 local families. To "adopt" a family, contact Nicole Burdette at either 755-7050 or Nicole.Burdette@usd262.net. To donate, contact Nancy Dugan at either 655-0657 or Nancy@DGWichitalaw.com. You may also send donations to Valley Center CARES for Kids, c/o Valley Center Intermediate School, 737 N. Meridian, Valley Center KS 67147. You could also consider giving to the Valley Center Ministerial Alliance's Food Pantry. The group is preparing to put together 75 holiday boxes to deliver to local families this month. You can donate money to the Valley Center Ministerial Alliance or non-perishable food items. Take the donations to Grace Connections, 300 N. Ash. There are opportunities in other north Sedgwick County communities as well. One of the biggest is Park City Pride's holiday food distribution efforts. After delivering food to 25 families before Thanksgiving, Pride is gearing up to have a similar distribution for Christmas. To help, donate food at Leeker's in Park City and other collection points around Park City. Park City Pride, you should know, serves families and students at Chisholm Trail Elementary School throughout the year. It's a great, community-focused organization. — The Ark Valley News |
