FOOTBALL PICKS: Thompson wins as contest enters final week

Aaron Thompson had 16 of 20 correct picks to win Week 9 of The Ark Valley News football picks contest.

Thompson will receive $20 in football bucks.

Bryan Kutz broke an eight-way tie for second place with 15 correct picks. He will receive $10 in football bucks. Mike Turner also had 15 correct picks and the next-closest tiebreaker guess to win third place and $5 in football bucks.

This week's prizes can be picked up at Valley Offset Printing, 160 S. Sheridan.

Kutz had a tiebreaker guess of 53. The final combined score of the Denver Broncos-Indianapolis Colts game was 51. Turner had a guess of 48.

Others with 15 correct picks (and their tiebreaker guesses) were Larry Garren (47), Ron Zane (45), Shane Neal (58), Judy Wilson (42), Billy Wilson (40) and Wesley Crow (40).

Fourteen people had 14 correct picks. They were Rex Jordan, Duane Freed, Mike Haden, Gary Haas, Vic Carroll, Caleb Clark, Stacy Terwilliger, Barbara Carroll, Fred Messick, Jordan Dingman, Ryan Nutter, Sharon Scantlin Marty Pierce and Barry Carr.

Scores have been accumulating during the 10-week contest. The overall winner will receive four tickets to the Kansas City Chiefs Dec. 27 football game against the Cleveland Browns at Arrowhead Stadium, lodging and $100 in cash.

With just one week left in the contest, Rex Jordan stretched his lead with 139 points, two better than Morris Lewis, Brian Carroll and Cameron McDaniel.

Duane Freed, Mike Haden, Gary Anderson and Laron Nordstedt had 135 each, Gary Haas 134, and Vic Carroll, Derek Rindt and Debbie O'Rear 133 each.
