Webber Senior Hornet named to all-league volleyball team By Randy Fisher Last Updated: November 12, 2015 Senior Kyli Webber highlights a Valley Center High School quintet of All-Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II players selected by the league's coaches Nov. 9. An honorable mention player last year, Webber was named a first-team hitter/setter this year. She led Valley Center with 31 aces and 262 kills, while finishing second in blocks (36) and assists (147). Valley Center coach Holly Rutter calls Webber their "go-to" player this season. "She is someone the team looks up to for leadership and encouragement and has done a great job of this," Rutter said. "Kyli … also stepped in for us setting most of the season, something she had never done before. Only a special athlete can step into a position like that and excel with only a couple of months of training." A pair of junior hitters, Miranda Dessenberger and Emily Klusener, were on the second team. Also a second-team selection last year, Klusener led the Hornets with 77 blocks while picking up 153 kills and hitting .260 this season. "Emily is our big physical middle who has a heavy arm," Rutter said. "Emily's passion for the game is undeniable and seems to always pull us out of tight situations." This is the first all-league honor for Dessenberger, who hit .263 to lead the Hornets. With 128 kills (second to Webber) and 24 blocks, Rutter referred to her as Valley's "silent assassin." "I'm not sure most teams would key in on her, being a right side, but she has consistently led our team in hitting percentage this year," Rutter said. "Miranda is someone I know we can always rely on to get the ball and play and score points for us." Receiving honorable mention were senior libero Evann Shelton and junior setter Kailey Pearson. Shelton was also honorable mention in 2014. This year, she had 385 digs to go with a 97.2 serve percentage. Pearson led the team with 355 assists and made the elite squad for the first time. "Evann was the best passer/digger on our team, passing 2.1 on the season off serve receive," Rutter said. "Her confidence was unwavering, and that's what made her so good." Rutter believes Pearson's passion for the game is contagious. "Kailey is the ultimate leader of our team, which is wonderful coming from a setter," said Rutter, a former setter. "She has improved so much within the last year and continues to do so with her strong work ethic and eagerness to be coachable and learn." Eisenhower swept through league play undefeated, touting Aspen Kridner as MVP and David Gardner as coach of the year. |
