The Valley Center third-grade Junior Hornets beat Circle, 20-0, on the road Sept. 26.

Valley Center made it 13-0 at halftime on a 24-yard tailback pass from Caleb Needham to Austin Saner. Corben Burgess ran in the PAT.

Needham scored from two yards out in the third quarter, and Connor Meyer added the PAT for the final score.

"This young football team is fun to watch as they are really figuring this game out," said coach Stephen Meyer. "The effort is picking up and techniques are improving."

Valley Center will play at Haysville Oct. 3.

Fifth grade

The fifth-grade Junior Hornets led at halftime, but turnovers proved costly in a 20-7 loss to Circle on the road Sept. 26.

The Hornets took an early 7-0 lead on a three-yard touchdown run by Easton Boone. Boone scored the PAT.

Circle returned a fumbled punt 40 yards for a touchdown. After a scoreless third quarter, Circle scored on a 21-yard run and then recovered a Valley Center fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.

Valley Center gained 231 yards to Circle's 68, but couldn't overcome penalties and turnovers.

Jacob Rutschman led the Hornets with seven tackles, including a QB sack, and one forced fumble. Cameron Bowyer had six tackles, Boone five and Braden Rios three. Connor Bushell and Kaden Lampe had two tackles each. Max Preheim, Blake Parsons, Caleb Saner, Logan Davis and Logan Smith had one tackle each.
