FOOTBALL PICKS: Near-perfect score wins third week

One person got 19 and a bunch of people had 18 in the third week of The Ark Valley News football picks contest.

Jason Reffner missed just one pick to place first this week. He will receive $20 in football bucks.

Ten pickers had 18 correct picks. Erik Riffel and Brian Carroll also tied with the closest tiebreaker guess. The combined final score of the Oklahoma State-Texas game was 57. Riffel guessed 58, while Carroll guessed 56. They will share the second- and third-place winnings and each will receive $7.50 in football bucks.

The others who had 18 correct picks (and their tiebreaker guesses) were Sharon Scantlin (53), Max Turner (62), Gary Haas (63), Cameron McDaniel (51), Gary Anderson (65), Steven Clausel (67), Harold Bohlmann (68) and Mike Turner (79).

Weekly prizes can be picked up at Dr. Tom Troilo's office, 201 W. Main.

Fifteen people had 17 correct picks. They were Caleb Clark, Mike Haden, Rex Jordan, Kyle Lang, Bill Lehr, Morris Lewis, Mike Mellinger, Shane Neal, Laron Nordstedt, Debbie O'Rear, Gordon Reddoch, Derek Rindt, Dan Schmidt, Maria Weaver and Ashley Royal.

Scores will accumulate during the 10-week contest. The overall winner will receive four tickets to a Kansas City Chiefs football game at Arrowhead Stadium, lodging and $100 in cash.

Haas maintained the overall lead with 47 points. Close behind with 46 were Bohlmann, Brian Carroll and Nordstedt. McDaniel, Haden, Lewis and Debbie O'Rear had 45.
