Enrollment up by 34 students By Chuck Terrill Last Updated: September 17, 2015 The Valley Center school district is expecting a 40-student increase in enrollment over last year. As of Sept. 9, the 2015-16 enrollment, which won't be audited by the state until later this month, was 2,864. The 2014-15 enrollment was 2,830, making a difference of 34 students. "I think it will be closer to 40," Superintendent Cory Gibson said. Gibson said enrollment will be in flux over the next several days. The grade level seeing the biggest increase in numbers was third grade, up to 225 from 197. The biggest decrease was in 10th grade, down to 202 from 225. Only three grade levels — kindergarten, first and 12th — were below 200 students. The school with the biggest increase in enrollment was the middle school, which went from 436 last year to 460. Abilene, the high school and the intermediate school are seeing small increases. West and Wheatland dipped slightly. The grade with the most students is ninth with 243. The grade with the fewest students is kindergarten with 178. Unaudited enrollment numbers for 2015-16 and audited totals for 2014-15 were: Kindergarten 178 and 196 (18-student drop), first grade 195 and 196 (one-student drop), second grade 203 and 212 (nine-student drop), third grade 225 and 197 (28-student increase), fourth grade 200 and 195 (five-student increase), fifth grade 210 and 199 (11-student increase), sixth grade 219 and 222 (three-student drop), seventh grade 228 and 221 (seven-student increase), eighth grade 232 and 215 (17-student increase), ninth grade 243 and 240 (three-student increase), 10th grade 202 and 225 (23-student drop), 11th grade 215 and 200 (15-student increase) and 12th grade 191 and 207 (16-student drop). |
