The fifth-grade Junior Hornets fell to Andover 32-0 at home Sept. 12.

Andover led 16-0 after the first quarter and 24-0 at the half. Each of Andover's touchdowns came on the ground.

Defensively, Easton Boone had six tackles, Avery Morand five, Logan Davis four, Caleb Saner four, Bowyer four, Kaden Lampe two and one each for Conner Bushell and Preheim.

Valley Center will play at Mulvane Sept. 19.

Fourth grade

The fourth-grade Junior Hornets scored a fourth-quarter touchdown to beat Andover 13-12 at home Sept. 12.

Valley Center led 6-0 in the first quarter on a 56-yard touchdown run by Jaxson Lewis.

Andover took a 12-6 lead in the second quarter on a quarterback run and an interception return for a touchdown.

After a scoreless third quarter, Lewis pulled off another long touchdown run in the fourth quarter, this one from 68 yards out, tying the game at 12 each. For the one-point conversion, Hank Welu completed a seven-yard pass to Trace Emig, to go up by one.

Valley Center needed a late defensive turnover to seal the win.

Lewis had 152 yards rushing. Welu completed two passes for 17 yards and rushed for 43. Rock Shomaker had 44 yards rushing. Emig caught two passes for 17 yards.

On defense, Welu had six tackles, including two QB sacks.

"Defense came up big in the second half, not allowing a score," said Valley coach Dan Welu. "Just as it looked like Andover might score late in the fourth, Jaxson Lewis came up with a huge interception to seal the victory."

Valley Center will play at Mulvane Sept. 19.

Third grade

The third-grade Junior Hornets fell to Andover at home, 6-0, on Sept. 12.

Andover scored a touchdown in the first quarter and held on for the win.

Valley Center had one touchdown called back.

The Junior Hornets will play at Mulvane Sept. 19.

1st-2nd grade

The first-second-grade Junior Hornets scored first and held on for a 14-7 victory over Rose Hill at home Sept. 12.

Valley Center got on the board in the opening quarter with a 30-yard touchdown run by Ethan Rudick. Cooper Boone passed to Conner Thatcher for the PAT.

In the third quarter, Rudick scored on a 45-yard touchdown run and added the PAT for the final margin.

Coach Daniel Rudick said the team played well on both sides of the football.

"This team has only four players returning from last year," he said. "The rest are first-year players and they are really fun to watch."

The Junior Hornets will play Hutch Blue in Hesston Sept. 19.
