Attempted abduction a misunderstanding
By Chris Strunk
Last Updated: August 28, 2015

Valley Center police said Aug. 21 that a reported attempted abduction turned out to be a matter of miscommunication.

Chief Mark Hephner said police were called to a residence near West Elementary Aug. 21 where a girl reported that a man in a truck motioned for her to get into the vehicle.

After an investigation, police discovered that a man pulled his vehicle beyond the driveway of his house and motioned to the girl who was walking by that he was going to back into the driveway. The girl thought he was waving her into the vehicle, Hephner said.

That wasn't the case, Hephner said.

The girl ran from the vehicle to a neighbor's house, where they called police.

Hephner said the girl reacted the right way.
