The semi stops on Northwind near Meridian.

Semi clips overhead cable, disrupts electricity on north side
By Chris Strunk
Last Updated: July 15, 2015

A semi truck and trailer damaged a power pole on the north side of Valley Center July 13, disrupting electrical service to dozens of local homes.

Valley Center police and firefighters responded to the incident about 8:30 a.m. The truck was turning onto Northwind from Meridian when the top of the truck caught an overhead cable line, causing the power pole to bend.

Electrical service in the area flickered a few times and then went out on the city's north side. Service was restored in stages. Nearly five hours later, the electricity appeared to be fully operational.

Meridian was partially blocked for several hours.

Police Chief Mark Hephner said the truck was delivering a five-gallon barrel of liquid chemical to a residence on Weatherly.

This wasn't the only time this week that a vehicle disturbed a power line in the area.

Early July 8, police responded to a wreck at 85th North and Broadway, where a vehicle ran into a light pole, which fell onto the car.

The driver was arrested on a charge of DUI.
