Father-son tourney draws 8

The 2015 Valley Center Father-Son Tennis Tournament drew eight teams June 19.

Taking the title of the second annual tournament was the doubles team of Chris Strunk and Ray Strunk, who is a recent Valley Center High School graduate. The Strunks beat Eric Berschauer and Chance Berschauer in the championship match, 10-9 (8-6). Chance Berschauer also is a 2015 VCHS graduate.

Jerry Rogers and Garrett Rogers finished in a tie for third with Abe Herbst and Triston Herbst.

Their match was tied 8-8 on June 19 when the tournament was suspended because the court lights timed out at 10 p.m. They couldn't resume the match because of a scheduling conflict.

Dan Schmidt and Koby Herbst placed fifth, Todd Swift and Colby Swift sixth, Brian Brauer and Hayden Brauer seventh and Dean Schulz and Jer Strunk (eighth).

In the first round, the Strunks defeated Schulz-Strunk 9-1; the Rogers defeated Schmidt-Herbst 9-3; the Berschauers defeated the Swifts 9-5; and the Herbsts defeated the Brauers 9-4.

In the quarterfinals of the winner's bracket, the Strunks defeated the Rogers 9-4, and the Berschauers defeated the Herbsts 9-7.

In the consolation bracket, Schmidt-Herbst defeated Schulz-Strunk 9-2, and the Swifts defeated the Brauers 9-5.

In the consolation finals, Schmidt and Herbst defeated the Swifts 9-4. In the seventh-place match, the Brauers defeated Schulz-Strunk 9-3.
