The View from Sunflower Gardens
By Marilyn Bentley
Last Updated: June 25, 2015

Life is a song, so enjoy the music

Life is a song, and love is the music. Back home, I had a girlfriend who played the organ in church. Though arthritis came to visit her body, she kept at it. She encouraged others in music; she accompanied singers. Then along came children and many grandkids. They learned music, sang, and loved it. Music: It makes everything go better.

We at Sunflower like the good old days stories. We share humor in a loving way, sometimes with corny jokes. As you live your life, there will be sad notes and glad notes.

Mack David gives us a song "Sunflower."

"I was born in Kansas. I was bred in Kansas and someday I'll be wed in Kansas.

"There's a true blue gal who promised she would wait, she's a sunflower from the sunflower state.

"Skies are fair in Kansas, clouds are rare in Kansas, never saw a place that could compare with Kansas.

"My friends will all be there to help me celebrate with my sunflower from the sunflower state.

"I'm here to state, she's my sunflower, my one flower, from the sunflower state."

Verse of the week (Psalms 119:105): "Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path. Praise the Lord."

Some folks here get exercise by walks in our halls.

"Sometimes the elderly get exercise by beating around the bush, jumping to conclusions, climbing the walls, pushing their luck, hitting the nail on the head, wading through paperwork, running in circles and jumping on the bandwagon." Anonymous.

Remember to pray for our troops and their families.

Thoughts for today:

"Let us read and let us dance. Two amusements that will never do harm to the world."

"We don't believe in rheumatism or true love until the first attack."

"Big doesn't necessarily mean better. Big flowers aren't better than violets or roses." A.M. Romaine.

"Agenda Earth" has a new meaning for us as we recycle and care for the Earth. We are to take care of our landfills, rivers, highways and homes. We are stewards of the good earth that feeds us and Kansas critters.

Folks here water indoor plants in the puzzle rooms; a variety of greenery.

Remember: "It's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker." Anonymous.

"Why did the unwashed chicken cross the road twice? Because it was a dirty double-crosser." Ha. Anonymous.

All of the above keeps me a happy camper.

We still enjoy Kay's Friday night sing-alongs, Nancy's piano concerts, Mennonite hymn concerts, potluck dinners, Thursday and Monday coffee chats, Bible study, game nights, getting letters, reading books from our library and walks around the north building.

"When the sun has set and we kneel to pray, we thank God for our work and play." Anonymous.

"Be kind, anyway." Mother Teresa.
