Contractor takes right steps with road project
Last Updated: June 18, 2015

In this space each week, we are quick to point out apparent mistakes or shortcomings.

But we also recognize when something appears to be working.

UCI, the contractor on the $6.7 million road reconstruction project in Valley Center, deserves a pat on the back this week.

To maintain the project's schedule, the company has implemented periodic Saturday and 12-hour shifts. That type of work schedule can be costly, so we appreciate the company's determination to stay on track, and its willingness to take a financial hit.

This is the largest single infrastructure undertaking in the city's history. It's important to Valley Center's future success, but as long as Meridian remains under construction, our businesses will suffer.

The quicker the project is finished, the better.

We get the feeling that the contractor recognizes those facts.

We also hear anecdotal evidence here and there that the company has shown a willingness to work with individual business owners to accommodate particular issues.

We appreciate that as well. We can't wait until this project is finished, but we're thankful there seems to be a spirit of teamwork.
