Ian J. Dowty graduated May 16 with a bachelor of arts degree and cum laude honors from Western Kentucky University and the Honors College in Bowling Green, Ky.

A 2011 graduate of Valley Center High School, Dowty majored in broadcast communications with a minor in French. As a videographer, he created media for the Office of International Programs, Office of Scholar Development, Division of Extended Learning and Outreach, Study Abroad and Global Learning, and the Honors College.

While at WKU, he studied abroad in Spain, Cuba, Italy, France, and Trinidad and Tobago. He was a member of the Dean's Council of Students and competed on the WKU forensics team.

The following area students earned semester honors for their academic performance during the spring 2015 semester at Kansas State University: Andrew Scherer of Kechi; Emilee Strecker of Park City; Tyler Gentry of Sedgwick; John Dolechek, Joel Findley, Jonathan Greig, Amy Hawley, Hannah Tritschler, Aaron Wolf, all of Bel Aire; and Mariah Brown, Raleigh Clark, Andrew Collins, Olivia Englert, Jennifer Hoppock, Erin Pilcher, Tara Sears, Jill Seiler, Margaret Seiler, Tara Terwilliger, all of Valley Center.

To earn these honors, students must have at least 12 graded hours and achieve a grade point average of 3.75 or above.

Benedictine College in Atchison announced its honor rolls for the spring 2015 semester.

Kathleen Wells of Wichita was named to the President's List. To make this list, a student must have a perfect 4.0 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours.

The following area students were named to the Dean's List: Erin Coulter and Elizabeth Weber, both of Wichita; and Kristine Pfeifer, Lauren Pfeifer and Gordon Schmitz, all of Bel Aire. To make this list, a student maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Sixteen area undergraduate students were named to the Dean's Honor Roll for the spring 2015 semester at Fort Hays State University.

From Bel Aire: Tracy J. Hutto, junior majoring in general studies (general business); and Daniel Ibarra, 2013 graduate of Wichita East High School, junior majoring in music (music education).

From Park City: Paul Noel Contemplacion, senior majoring in information networking and telecommunications (web development); Lindsey Louise Fry, 2011 graduate of Valley Center High School, senior majoring in tourism and hospitality management; and Steven Frank Nelson, senior majoring in management.

From Valley Center: Sierra Jeanne Archer, 2013 graduate of Valley Center High School, sophomore majoring in communication sciences and disorders; Jordan L. Bohm, 2011 graduate of Kapaun Mount Carmel High School, senior majoring in art (graphic design); Kristy Jo Breneman, 2013 graduate of Valley Center High School, junior majoring in early childhood unified education; Craig Robert Crossette, junior majoring in political science; and Cynthia Marie Curry, senior majoring in elementary education.

From Wichita: Addison Kevin Pauler, 2012 graduate of Wichita Northwest High School, junior majoring in radiologic technology; Kelsey Mae Tully, 2011 graduate of Maize South High School, senior majoring in agriculture (animal science); Erin Megan Lau, senior majoring in psychology; Chelsea Ijeoma Iheme, 2012 graduate of Wichita Heights High School, junior majoring in psychology; Daniel Hubert Kelly, 2014 graduate of Kapaun Mount Carmel High School, freshman majoring in health and human performance (sport and exercise therapy); and Melissa Dawn Taylor, junior majoring in elementary education.

To be eligible, a student must have been enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.60 for the semester. Fulltime on-campus and FHSU Virtual College students are also eligible.

Helen LeBlanc of Valley Center received her certification pin May 8 as part of the 2015 graduating class in the Health Information Management Program at Hutchinson Community College.

Whitney Zimmerman of Valley Center was named to the Honorable Mention honor roll by achieving a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.54 for the fall 2014 semester at McPherson College.

Angel M. Martinez and Zack D. Villarreal, both of Wichita, were honored during baccalaureate worship and commencement ceremonies held May 17 for summer, fall, interterm and spring graduates from 2014-15 at Bethany College.

Martinez earned a degree in sports management. Villarreal earned a degree in elementary education general studies.

Lindsay Elizabeth Corning of Valley Center graduated from Manhattan Area Technical College at its spring commencement exercises May 15. She received an associate of applied science degree in dental hygiene.

Logan Wohlford of Valley Center is a member of the 61st anniversary company of Emporia State University Summer Theatre. The troupe opened its season June 10 with a four-show run of "Let's Murder Marsha" by Monk Ferris. Wohlford, a junior theater education major, is a scene shop assistant. "Let's Murder Marsha" runs through June 13 at 7:30 p.m. All performances are at the Karl C. Bruder Theatre in King Hall on the Emporia State University campus. Positive Aging Day will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23 at the Sedgwick County Extension Education Center, 21st North and Ridge Road.

The program is designed for seniors, caregivers, aging professionals and students. Participants will choose five of 20 different educational sessions, listen to keynote speaker Chaille Blount from the Sedgwick County Zoo and enjoy a box lunch. Highlights of the day include topics about gardening, cooking for one or two, exercising, protecting yourself, care giving, organizing and much more.  

Cost for the event is $10.50 per person. Advance registration by June 19 is recommended to reserve a box lunch. Participants can register online at www.sedgwick.ksu.edu, mail your name and contact information along with payment or contact K-State Research and Extension office Monday through Wednesday at 660-0127.

This annual event is hosted by K-State Research and Extension-Sedgwick County, Central Plains Area Agency on Aging and Wichita State University. It is sponsored by Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Hart Pharmacy, Home Instead Senior Care and Active Age.
