History important in moving forward Last Updated: June 11, 2015 It's important to remember the past and pay tribute to the people who were here before us. In many cases, they paved the way for future accomplishments. In all cases, remembering the past provides context for future decisions. Such is the case at Valley Center High School these days. Alums became aware this spring that many of the school's senior picture panels were no longer on display. The new wall display at the school, which opened four years ago, included only pictures from 2005 forward. It was a shock to some alums, who were used to seeing the panels at the former school building. The school said the panels will be scanned into a system to be displayed digitally. That project may take several weeks if not months to accomplish. That's apparently not enough for some graduates, who said they want the panels displayed in physical form somewhere, preferably at the school. That may not be possible. Logistical and financial constraints may prevent that from happening. However, these graduates are right to push the issue. Maybe there is a solution. We can imagine that the Valley Center Historical Society could get involved in this situation and provide some expertise and/or space to the project. Displaying the photos at the historical museum could be a good compromise. We're not sure what direction this will go. We know, however, that whatever arrangement is made, the project must have an eye on the future and a foot in the past. —The Ark Valley News |
