4-H report Last Updated: May 28, 2015 Valley Victors The Valley Victors 4-H Club met May 11 at West Elementary at 7 p.m. Roll was called by Casey Shinkle, vice president. Roll call was answered by using a weather term to describe yourself. The flag salute was led by Charlie Anderson and the 4-H pledge by Emma Anderson. For leaders' reports, Nancy Anderson talked about 4-H camp. Marcine Mouldenhauer relayed due dates for paperwork and work days for the county fair. See your Sedgwick County newsletter for due dates. Brigette Crist told us that we will deliver the donations we collected May 21 to the Wesley Medical Center pediatric unit. The 4-H'ers will be able to look at some of the hospital rooms where patients play and receive treatments. Nancy Anderson told us about the project where we could sew bags and fill them with school supplies for children in Third World countries. If you would like to participate in this or have any questions contact Nancy Anderson at 755-0205. For demonstrations, Gracie Nelsen gave a talk about Zebra mussels. She told us that Zebra mussels cling to boats and clog up drainage pipes at lakes and take oxygen from the fish. She also told us to prevent spreading them by cleaning the outside of your boat before allowing it to be used on another body of water. For recreation, we played Hungry Hungry Hippos. The goal of the game is to get as many balls to your side as fast as possible by using the basket to grab a hold of the balls. The trick was that the members were on scooters and were pushed out onto the floor by another member. The next meeting will be the annual 4-H tour and will be held on June 8. Please call Nancy Anderson. — Joey Spratt, reporter |
