Residents are encouraged to participate by placing non-perishable food items (no glass containers) in bags and leaving them by their mailboxes before mail delivery May 9. All the food will go to local food banks and pantries. This is the 23rd year for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive. "This is a good cause to help families in our community who are struggling and need to put food on the table," said Valley Center Postmaster Dale Johnston. ... Mary Mitchell is the Valley Center Chamber of Commerce's $50 winner of the road construction prize drawing for April. Mitchell turned in a Sonic receipt and her name was drawn. ... Two arrests have been made in the April 22 burglary of the ATM outside of Intrust Bank in Valley Center. Chief Mark Hephner said the suspects are from Louisiana, and the FBI got involved with the investigation because the pair may have been involved in similar burglaries in other states. Hephner said the suspects used a chop saw to cut into the machine. Police stopped one of the suspects in a vehicle, and learned the identity of the other suspect during an interview.
