What's on your mind Last Updated: May 07, 2015 Intersection dangerous Over the past several years, the intersection of 85th and Broadway has been the location for numerous accidents. Within the past four weeks, two additional accidents have occurred, resulting in a fatality and serious injuries. It is time to address an issue that has been a problem for years. The visibility at this intersection for motorists heading east and west on 85th is difficult at best to see cars heading north on Broadway. That combined with an ongoing indifference by some drivers who roll through the intersection as if it had a yield sign instead of clearly marked stop signs, or worse yet, completely ignore the stop signs and blast through them without slowing down, makes this a hazardous intersection. For those drivers who think they don't have to stop, consider this: Your lack of consideration for other drivers can leave you with the guilt of injuring someone else or ending a life if you are found guilty of causing an accident. If that isn't enough, your insurance rates will dramatically rise or might be cancelled. A hefty civil lawsuit that will leave you financially destitute might also get your attention. Get the picture? Monitor 85th, Broadway Valley Center and Park City law enforcement, please start monitoring the 85th and Broadway intersection at peak travel times in the morning and afternoon. Park a patrol car at this intersection and start writing tickets for any drivers who need a reminder that they forgot to stop. Sedgwick County traffic engineers need to take a good long look at what corrective actions can be taken to make this intersection safer. Your actions will help alleviate more accidents, which will inevitably occur if nothing is done. No light for the flag I want to know why the flag at the post office is not lighted, though it is up 24 hours a day. It seems a little unpatriotic. I'd like to have it taken care of.
