ELMER DYKES

Elmer Dykes, 85, of Sedan, died April 18, 2015. He was a retired meat packer.

He was born April 28, 1929, in Wynona, Okla., to Edward Dykes and Cleo P. (Holbrook) Dykes. He grew up and attended school in Vian, Okla. He later moved to Wichita where he worked as a meat packer for Dold Foods and Hormel, retiring in 1996. He married Glenda B. Koch on Oct. 2, 1950, Fort Smith, Ark. They lived in Wichita for many years before moving to Sedan in 2000. He was a member of the UFCW Union.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son David W. Dykes and grandson Adam D. Dykes. Survivors include his wife; daughter Fayetta M. (the Rev. Rick) Thornton of Valley Center; son E. Dwight (Vickie) Dykes of Sedan; sister Rosetta Yarbrough of Wichita; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was April 24 at the First Baptist Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Sedan. Memorials to the Pleasant Valley Manor Activity Fund or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, in care of Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan KS 67361.
