Middle school tennis repeats as home quad winners

For the second year in a row, Valley Center Middle School dominated its own quad tournament April 23. The Hornets recorded five first-place finishes and three second-place finishes to outdistance Haysville West (second), Haysville (third) and Hutchinson (fourth).

Posting 3-0 marks to finish first were Colby Swift at No. 1 singles, Hayden Brauer at No. 3 singles, Logan Snyder and Gavin Fitch at No. 1 doubles, Kyle Stamm and Nathan Schaar at No. 3 doubles, and Jeremiah Strunk and Matthew Patterson at No. 4 doubles.

Swift beat Haysville West 6-1, Haysville 6-0 and Hutchinson 6-0.

Brauer won 6-0 over Haysville West, 6-2 over Haysville and 6-0 over Hutchinson.

Doubles competition saw Snyder and Fitch beat Haysville West 6-2, Haysville 6-4 and Hutchinson 6-5 (7-3).

Stamm and Schaar won 6-4 over Haysville West and 6-3 over Haysville before winning with a bye over Hutchinson.

Strunk and Patterson cruised by Haysville West 6-3 and Haysville 6-2, before posting a bye victory over Hutchinson.

Nearly as impressive with 2-1 records and a second-place finish were Brandon McClure at No. 2 singles, Josiah Farney at No. 4 singles, and Brayden Ruble and Ethan Phillips at No. 2 doubles.

McClure lost to Haysville West 6-1, edged Haysville 6-5 (8-6) and shut out Hutchinson 6-0.

Farney lost 6-1 to Haysville West, nipped Haysville 6-5 (7-2) and blanked Hutchinson 6-0.

Ruble and Phillips dropped a 6-4 decision to Haysville West, blanked Haysville 6-0 and downed Hutchinson 6-0.
