Middle school to receive state award

Valley Center Middle School will receive a state award for social, emotional and character development.

Character.org and the Topeka City of Character, in collaboration with the Kansas State Department of Edcuation and the Brown v. Board of Education Historical Site will award VCMS with a Spotlight Award for Social, Emotional and Character Development May 7 in Topeka.

The program recognizes schools that have "demonstrated education principles that include creating a caring school community, engaging families and community members in character-building efforts," according to a news release.
