Beatrice J. "Bea" Coats, 85, of Wichita, died April 15, 2015.

She was born June 3, 1929, in Dodge City. She graduated from Marymount College in Salina with a bachelor of arts in music. She married Gordon L. Coats on Aug. 19, 1950. They lived in Hutchinson for a year and moved to Kinsley for most of the 64 years they were married. She was the first woman mayor of Kinsley and later served as Edwards County Clerk.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dorothy Moore Basgall, and brother. Richard Basgall.

Survivors include her husband Gordon; daughters Leslie Coats of Paola, Jennifer Martino of North Kansas City, Mo., Shannon (Steve) Barnes of Valley Center, and Stacy (Lowell) Kohlmeier of Manhattan; grandchildren Ian (Kelly) Barnes, Caleb (Janet) Barnes, Darrah (Bryan) Hodge, Emma Martino, Grant Kohlmeier and Drew Kohlmeier; great-granddaughters Mackenzie and Eva; step great-granddaughter Rilynn Hodge, and another great-granddaughter soon to be born; sister-in-law Ellie Basgall; nieces Richelle Basgall and Valorie McDowell; and nephew Greg Basgall.

Funeral Mass was April 20 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with burial at Hillside Cemetery, both in Kinsley. Memorials to Good Shepherd Hospice, 7829 E. Rockhill, Suite 403, Wichita KS 67206 or St. Nicholas Catholic Church Music Fund, 706 E. Sixth, Kinsley KS 67547.
