Hornet JV golfers show improvement
By The News staff
Last Updated: April 23, 2015

Appearance can sometimes be deceiving. Take the results from April 21's Andover Central Invitational at Sierra Hills in which the Valley Center High School junior varsity golf team tangled with some of the area's top teams.

It finished with a 353 team score, 10th out of 10 teams, and 10 strokes behind ninth-place Maize High School.

While coach Jon Graham, of course, would have liked the team to have placed higher, he saw a silver lining in the finish.

"Despite placing 10th, we did show a 10-stroke improvement from last week on the same course," he said.

The day's highlight, he said, was seeing Caleb Isaacs and Dayne Hickey lead the Hornets, both with 86s and both shooting 13 strokes better than last week.

Other Hornets in the match included Devin Fix with an 89, Riley Johnson at 92, Peyton Smith with a 105 and Broc Shafer rounding out the effort with a 107.

Andover won the event with a 259.
