Middle school track team competes at Augusta, Prairie Hills and Andover Central

The Valley Center Middle School track team started the season with a quad at Augusta April 7 and a participation meet in Prairie Hills April 13.

At Augusta, the seventh-grade boys were fourth, eighth-grade boys third, seventh-grade girls third and eighth-grade girls third.

Valley Center competed at Andover Central April 14. Up next, the Hornets will be at Wellington April 16 and host a quad April 21.

Eighth girls — The eighth-grade girls had 18 top-six finishes at Augusta.

Madison Eckert placed second in the 100-meter dash with 13.84 seconds. Lydia Smith was fifth in the 100 with 13.96.

Holly Smith was second in the 800 with 2:44.92 and first in the 1,600 with 6:47.59.

Abigail Weldon placed fourth in the 3,200 with 16.38.32.

Lydia Smith was second in the 100 hurdles with 18.33, while Whitney Quandt was fourth with 19.20.

Holly Smith placed sixth in the 200 hurdles with 38.18.

Eckert, Holly Smith, Emily Kemp and Trenady Vontress placed third in the 4x100-meter relay with 58.30. Madaleine Cox, Macey Crawford, Sarah Jung and Adriana Reyes were fourth with 1:02.34.

Eckert, Kemp, Jessica Sharp and Vontress placed second in the 4x200 with 2:03.99. Cox, Crawford, Jung and Reyes were fifth with 2:14.56.

Cox, Crawford, Jung and Kemp placed second in the 4x400 with 5:14.02.

Eckert, Jaycie Phillips, Sharp and Vontress were third in the 1,600 medley relay with 5:31.52.

Libby Schurle was third in the shot put with 30 feet, 3.5 inches. Maria Vega placed fifth with 29-0.

Vega was second in the discus with 67-3. Schurle was third with 60-11.

Eighth boys — The eighth-grade boys had 16 top-six finishes at Augusta.

Cooper Holdaway placed fourth in the 100 with 12.83.

Jacob Case was second in the 400 with 58.49.

Case was second in the 800 with 2:29.42, while Derek Barton was fifth with 2:46.58 and Aidan Gantenbein sixth with 2:47.46.

Anthony Vance was third in the 1,600 with 6:02.23, and Gantenbein was sixth with 6:30.92.

Barton placed second in the 3,200 with 13:06.66.

Zach Williams won the 100 hurdles with 16.08.

Dylan Bastian placed sixth in the 200 hurdles with 31.55.

Waylon Chance, Blayne Hightower, Holdaway and Williams won the 4x100 with 51.67. Dale Hatfield, Bryant Ivey, Layton Lewis and Mitchell Trible were fourth with 55.61.

Case, Holdaway, Chance and Williams were second in the 4x400 with 4:09.62.

Williams placed third in the long jump with 16-3.

Brennon Ricks was fourth in the shot put with 35-10.5.

Hatifled placed second in the discus with 98-10.

Seventh girls — The seventh-grade girls had 19 top-six finishes.

Ellie Shank won the 100-meter dash with 14.18. Kait McDonald placed fourth with 14.68.

Shank was second in the 200 with 30.52.

Chloe Martens placed second in the 400 with 1:15.12. Randi Leiker was sixth with 1:16.99.

Sophia McNiel placed fifth in the 1,600 with 6:49.81

Kylee Dawson placed second in the 100 hurdles with 19.27. Carli Claussen was third with 19:59.

Dawson won the 200 hurdles with 32.00. Claussen was fourth with 34.83 and Payton Boone was sixth with 36.51.

Dawson, Chelsea John, Elena Schmelzle and Shank placed second in the 4x100 with 57.99

Dawon, John, Schmelzle and McDonald won the 4x200 with 2:06.27. Grace LeMastres, Chloe Martens, Adrian Miller and Karson Rollins were fifth with 2:25.33.

Brooklyn Crawford, Kaitlyn Herrman, Natalie Logan and Brooke Postlethwait placed fifth in the 4x400 with 5:27.30.

Claussen, Martens, McDonald and Schmelzle won the 1,600 medley relay with 2:13.99.

Shank was fifth in the long jump with 12-7, while McDonald placed sixth with 12-4.75.

Seventh boys — The seventh-grade boys had 15 top-six finishes.

Matthew Spencer placed third in the 100 with 12.54, while Austin Wolf was fourth with 13.14.

Wolf was third in the 200 with 28.29, and Spencer was fifth with 28.71.

Ray Flora won the 800 with 1:18.51 and was third in the 1,600 with 5:47.02.

Grady Gilson, Wyatt Hager, Caden Holle and Wyatt Redburn placed fourth in the 4x200 with 2:02.50.

Justin Gulledge, Hager, Gilson and Ruben Raymundo were third in the 4x400 with 4:39.00.

Gulledge, Holle, Redburn and Wolf placed third in the 800 medley relay with 2:08.36.

Raymundo won the long jump with 14-10, while Redburn was second with 14-7.5 and Spencer sixth with 13-3.

Antonio Caldwell placed fourth in the shot put with 25-4, while Jarod Payne was fifth with 25-1.

Payne placed sixth in the discus with 62-8.
