The View from Sunflower Gardens By Marilyn Bentley Last Updated: April 09, 2015 Birds flock to feeders at Sunflower For all our folks who have April birthdays, here is wishing you a year of blue skies and happy landings. Among the dear hearts and gentle folks who live here are those who keep our bird feeders filled. Thank you. Welcome, welcome to new residents. Verse of the week: "To every thing there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven." (Ecclesiastes 3:1) Remember to keep our troops and their families in your prayers. Soon it will be the annual April big garage sale event in Valley Center. It's fun to walk through the streets to gain new bargains in gadgets and useful items. We still like our coffee and donut chat days, Bible study, potluck dinners, game night and our library. Hope you had a Happy Easter. Our shelves here are decorated with flowers and Easter eggs, all in many colors. Our many sports fans still follow Kansas teams. Middle schools have children enjoying hockey and softball to exercise all these young folks nearby. It's spring-cleaning time. Also "April showers bring May flowers." Anonymous. We enjoy seeing birds at our feeders: Blue jays, robins, finches, mourning doves and sparrows. Sometimes we see a bright red cardinal there. Remember to wear seat belts. Obey speed limits. It's the law. Folks here are new neighbors. We have come from several states. We rejoice that we all get along. Folks came from Oklahoma, Ohio, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Nebraska, Texas, Illinois and Kansas. Get well soon to all who are under the weather. May God bless the U.S.A. "While we sing, and smile and pray, and night will turn to day." Old hymn. We still enjoy Nancy's piano concerts here on Thursdays and our Mennonite friends — folks who have hymn sing-alongs with us and our Friday night times with Kay, the piano, and hymns. The ecology of Kansas is fragile as is our economy. We know this is true when we open a newspaper. New road construction in our area teaches us and reaches us that life is full of ongoing changes, which alter our landscape. Thanks to our mailman, Jason. Even our junk mail gives us stickers to enjoy. We note the variety of pets at Sunflower. Cats and dogs who live here make happier lives for their owners. "Deliver us from ghoulies and ghosties and long-legged beasties and things that go bump in the night." A Scot prayer. Here, along the "R-Kansas" River, we enjoy season changes. The new green winter wheat is growing and giving us color. We are still proud of our Kansas cowboys, Kansas athletes, Kansas kids, our museums, airplane builders, ranchers, preachers, teachers, cops and firemen. "Be kind, anyway." Mother Teresa. |
