By The News staff
Last Updated: March 26, 2015

The Kansas State High School Activities Association recently honored Terry Orvis for his 40 years as a wrestling official. Plaques were given to individuals with 20, 30, 40 and 50 years of service to the youth and schools of Kansas.

The KSHSAA' recognizes these individuals "…for their years of study, preparation, sacrifice of personal time, and most of all, their enduring commitment to the schools and youth of Kansas."

"I have known Terry for well over 20 years, and he has always been a very good wrestling official and a man of high character," Valley Center wrestling coach Brian Shelton said.

A Wichita resident, Orvis wrestled heavyweight at Valley Center in the late 1970s. He finished second at state in 1978. The next year, Orvis became Valley's first-ever state wrestling champion.
