Valley Center High School will host the Class 5A state weightlifting championships March 7. Lifting starts at 9 a.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students. Children, competitors, volunteers, coaches and bus drivers are admitted free of charge. … The average price for a gallon of gas in the Wichita area rose by 11.5 cents in the past week, averaging $2.27 on March 1. The national average increased 12 cents last week to $2.42, according to GasBuddy.com. The Valley Center school board will meet at 7:30 p.m. March 9 at the District Office. The board is expected to hear reports on Skills USA and the West Elementary Site Council, updates on the Hornet logo and legislative action and a budget republication report. In new business, the board will consider a high school senior recognition proposal, capital outlay plans, a Walmart/Cotton Gallery agreement and budget reductions. The board is expected to meet in executive session to discuss personnel before voting on a personnel report and work agreements for district directors.
