VCMS wrestlers lose to Goddard, beat Haysville

The Valley Center Middle School wrestling team's win streak is over.

The Hornets fell to Goddard 44-39 in a triangular at home Feb. 24.

Valley Center is 8-1 in duals and 3-1 in Pioneer League II duals.

Valley Center defeated Haysville West, a non-league opponent, 60-33.

Quentin Kirk lost to Goddard and Haysville at 80 pounds. Grady Gilson lost two at 85.

At 90 pounds, Chase Faimon got two pins, and Coby Collins won both of his matches at 95.

Dillon Moler defeated his Goddard opponent by tech fall and then pinned his Haysville opponent at 100 pounds.

Devin Delforge followed with a couple of wins at 110, including a 13-2 decision against Goddard.

Layton Lewis was 2-0, pinning his Goddard opponent at 115.

Carson Kraus split matches at 120 pounds, losing to Goddard.

Alec Flores lost to Goddard at 127 pounds, but won a 15-0 decision over Haysville.

Cooper Holdaway went 0-2 at 134 pounds and Hunter Hughes was 0-2, with two close decisions, at 141.

Reid Barnett lost to Goddard but pinned his Haysville opponent at 148 pounds.

Kaleb Voegeli was 0-2 at 155, and Ethan Mullen lost to Goddard.

Dale Hatfield was on the short end of a 2-0 overtime decision against Goddard at 180. He lost a 165-pound match to Haysville. Also at 180, Alex Sanchez lost to Haysville.

Spencer Niedens remained undefeated with two pins on the night at 215 pounds. He is 11-0 on the year.

Tony Caldwell finished with two wins at 265 pounds, including a pin of his Goddard opponent. Caldwell is 12-1.

Getting JV wins were Mitchell Trible at 134 pounds and Cody Pearson at 215. Pearson got two pins.

The Hornets competed in a triangular at Prairie Hills March 3 and will be in the league tournament at Andover Central March 7.
