VCMS wrestlers 8-0 after beating South, Andover

The Valley Center Middle School wrestling team improved its record to 8-0 with dual wins over Maize South and Andover Central on the road Feb. 17.

Valley Center defeated host Maize South 60-33 and squeaked by Andover Central 48-46.

The Hornets are 3-0 in Pioneer League II action.

Quentin Kirk improved to 9-1 with two wins, including a pin of his Maize South opponent at 80 pounds.

Grady Gilson was 2-0 at 85, including a pin of Maize South.

Coby Collins went 1-1 at 90 pounds. Chase Faimon was 0-2 at 95.

At 100, Dillon Moler scored two pins.

Devin Delforge was 1-1 at 110, including an 18-2 win over Maize South.

Layton Lewis improved to 8-2 with two wins, including a pin, at 115 pounds.

Carson Kraus was 1-1 at 120.

Alec Flores went 1-1 at 127 pounds, improving his overall record to 9-2.

Cooper Holdaway was 0-2 at 134.

Reid Barnett was 1-1 at 148, including a pin of his Maize South opponent.

Kaleb Voegeli was 0-2 at 155.

Ethan Mullen went 1-1 at 165.

Dale Hatfield also was 1-1 at 180.

Spencer Niedens remained undefeated at 215 with a pin of his Maize South opponent.

Tony Caldwell sealed Valley Center's victory over Andover Central with a 7-3 overtime win at 265 pounds. Caldwell, who also scored a pin against Maize South, is 10-1 on the season.

In JV matches, Jack Bastow was 2-0 at 120 pounds, Chad Banning got a win over Maize South at 120, Kobe Gresham was 1-1 at 134, Aaron Diehl was 1-1 at 134, Andy Alonzo won one at 165, Alex Sanchez defeated Maize South at 180 and Cody Pearson went 2-0 at 215.

The Hornets wrestled at home Feb. 24. Valley will compete in a triangular at Prairie Hills March 3 before the March 7 Pioneer League II tournament at Andover Central.
