The Valley Center High School baseball team will hold a silent auction fundraiser during this weekend's January Jam. Items will be located along the west wall of the VCHS gym.

Notable items up for auction include autographed KU men's basketballs, Pete Rose autographed baseballs, Pete Rose autographed gold glove, framed picture of Nolan Ryan and Pete Rose, autographed picture of Hakeem Olajuwon, football autographed by Bill Snyder, KSU autographed women's basketball, Austrian Pine Tree and planting ($300 value), a 30-minute pitching lesson from Luke Robertson ($35 value), skybox rental at a Wichita Wingnuts game, Nate Robertson World Series baseball, $500 gift certificate toward any roof or remodel job from Dingers Roofing & Remodeling, youth baseball camp entry fee ($30 value), three gift baskets, football camp entry fee ($50 value) and an auto kit ($125 value).

Bids can be made from 3 to 9:30 p.m. both Jan. 22 and 23, and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 24. Bidding will close at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 24. All proceeds will benefit the VCHS baseball program.

Evan Voth was named to the fall 2014 semester Scholastic Honors List for outstanding academic performance at Kansas State University. To accomplish this, students must have a grade point average of 3.75 or above. Voth is finishing his secondary education degree this semester by student teaching history and government at Rock Creek High School in St. George.

Zachory Kirkham, a sophomore from Valley Center, was named to the fall 2014 semester Dean's List at Hesston College. To receive this honor, a student must be full time and have a grade point average between 3.9 and 4.0. Hesston College is the two-year liberal arts college of Mennonite Church USA.

Holly I. Ratliff of Valley Center was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2014 semester at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo. The list recognizes full-time students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours who earned a grade point average of 3.75 or above on a 4.0 scale.

Kira Eddy of Valley Center and Jayden Smith of Wichita were named to the Baker University College of Arts and Sciences and School of Education undergraduate Dean's List for maintaining a 3.5 grade-point average or higher during the fall 2014 semester.

The Little Arkansas Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR) elected new officers for the 2015-17 term. They are Pam Porter, regent; Debby Potter, vice-regent; Judy Conkling, chaplain; Pam Brillhart, secretary; Marsha Huebert, treasurer; Patty Robidou, registrar; Sondra Chriestenson, historian; and Kay Peterson, librarian.

Lois Young was also initiated as a new member in January.

The Little Arkansas chapter meets at the Valley Center Historical Society building the first Saturday of October, November, January, February, April and June, and on the first Thursday night of September, March and May. Any woman over 18 who can prove relationship to an American Revolutionary War patriot is invited to join. The group can help with documentation.
