Committee to choose architect for community center
By Chris Strunk
Last Updated: January 22, 2015

An effort to develop a multi-purpose community center in Valley Center is moving forward.

Valley Center City Council member Marci Maschino said Jan. 20 that a committee working on the community center is scheduled to interview four architectural firms Jan. 22 to pick an architect for the project.

The architect will develop concepts for a possible facility.

City officials expect the concepts to be presented to the city council and the community in May.

The community center could include space for a library, a senior center and public meeting and gathering rooms. Leaders have said the community center would be located in the southeast part of Lions Park, replacing the existing community building.

City council member Judith Leftoff said during the council's Jan. 20 meeting that she knew of someone interested in buying the library's current building at 321 W. First. The building is owned by the city. She asked City Manager Joel Pile when it would be sold.

Pile said that the council may have that discussion this summer, but no firm decisions have been made yet about the community center.
