The View from Sunflower Gardens

Light comes to us in many forms

Light has a struggle to push back the darkness in all its forms. Light can be a good education; it can be the Bible. It can be family.

It can be literally a streetlight, a car light, or a light in lamps in a home.

Light can be against ignorance, a form of darkness. Darkness can be unhappiness or grief or pain.

This is a season of light when tree lights and lots of color bring happiness, joy and inspiration to those who seek it.

We may be surprised by joy this time of year.

To some curious children and adults with a hunger for knowledge, our schools and libraries give help.

Thank you to all librarians, teachers, preachers and road repairmen. They smooth the way for us.

So turn on the light in all its forms.

Verse of the week: "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to Lord of the harvest to send out laborers." Matthew 9:35.

Remember to pray for all our troops and their families.

Meanwhile, we like our Monday and Thursday coffee chats, game nights, Bible study, exercise days, Nancy's piano concerts, all our sing-alongs and walks in our halls to greet neighbors.

Did you know or notice our days will slowly have more daylight?

The winter solstice or first day of winter was Dec. 21.

We enjoyed seeing many music programs on TV in the holiday season. Also, cute cartoon shows for kids of all ages.

Soon it will be Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Time marches on as we enjoy our potluck dinner here and residents' birthdays.

The cold winds of January bring an end to school vacation, and school days are bright again.

"This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine."

"Experience keeps a dear school, but fools will learn in no other." Ben Franklin.

Some folks here still enjoy the van trips to shop in Wichita or dine in the many cafes in the area.

Remember: "If it goes without saying, let it." Anonymous.

Remember: The new year is a chance to again get it right.

Now we have a new Congress and a new calendar. Kansas Day is Jan. 29.

"Remember to say thanks. It's welcome as the daisies and refreshing as spring rains. Cheery as yellow daffodils and sunlit windowpanes. Thank you can be many things making life worthwhile." Ray Nelson.

Welcome, welcome to all new residents.

Happy birthday to those born in January.

Remember to say please and thank you.

"Be kind, anyway." Mother Teresa.

Ours is an awesome God; how about you?
